You may have a leak from the steering rack. This fluid reservoir also supplies the self levelling rear suspension if your car has this fitted. If so the MB power steering fluid is recommended.

are you sure?

my self levelling suspension has it's own independent reservoir and both need different fluids

check with your dealer before filling up as some of the oil requirements are very specific :)

the spec sheet and Haynes manual I have for the W124 lists

power steering - Mercedes Benz Lenkgetriebeol (00 989 88 03)
self levelling - Mercedes Benz Hydraulikol (000989 91 03)

Dont put the wrong fluid i n because it could end up destroying the internal seals and costing a small fortune to repair.

"power steering - Mercedes Benz Lenkgetriebeol (00 989 88 03)"

you can also use "dexron 2" as most of us have for years and years, mineral oil is an expensive "gimmick", believe me
blobcat, was it the cbr or the bmw you were out on?
