Is this going to be an issue?
I ran out of petrol at a very busy roundabout and got my jerry can and filled up with fuel, I have obviously undone the filler cap and lost it somewhere, I have searched my car high and low and gone back to the roundabout where I broke down and it isn't anywhere to be found...

Why is this happening to me? I cant believe the things that keep happening to me

Errr yes it will. Get yourself a locking cap from the Nissan dealer or see your fuel slosh out when cornering or worse catch fire when someone drops a cigarette end by your car. It will be giving off fumes and vapour which are highly flammable. Don't delay buying a new one.

Hi, I would just like to reiterate that I mean the internal fuel cap not the external metal cap, will the same still apply???

You have lost me totally. How many fuel caps does your car have?

Most have a locking /screw on cap which is either plastic or metal and a folding metal hinged flap to cover the fuel filler cap. Is yours somehow different?

Hi I am talking about the locking/screw on plastic cap which is under the folding metal hinged flap which covers the fuel cap. Sorry for the confusion.

Emergency replacement caps are sold in most service stations, for obvious reasons....

No cap = not watertight... Water could get in ( my dad back in the day always told me to keep the hose away from the fuel filler cap and cover

I used an old rag (Do not do this yourself)for about a year once on an old ford as a filler cap. It was like driving around in a mobile Molotov cocktail.:D

W202 is nicely designed to channel rainwater from the rear quarter!! straight down the filler neck!!
