Yes indeed, I have managed to break something.

I opened the cubbyhole shown in the picture to see if the was a cup holder inside (I've seen pictures of one). Sadly there isn't. :(

However, the lid now won't close.:mad:Something is obviously stuck in the mechanism (I didn't hear anything break) but my thick brain can't understand how the mechanism works.

If I promise to leave it alone, can someone please tell me how to sort it?

Possibly just sticking open, if all else fails, try brute force. But don't tell anyone I said that o_O

The box is fine, the lid won't stay closed whether the box is in or not.

Looks as though it could do with a good clean out with a paint brush, and then I would be giving it a judicious spray with WD40 or something similar.

Well just to spite you all, the lid has now decided to close. I shall not touch it again...

...mind you I was aghast to see that the wood veneer on the lid has a crack in it! Honestly, I thought these were supposed to be quality cars...

That's a receptacle which will always be filled with parking slips, till receipts, sweet wrappers, paper clips etc etc, stick a powerful vacuum cleaner hose on it might make the lid work properly again.

Interesting that you can manually drop down to first gear. My W124 only manually dropped down to second.

I manually select 1st each time I leave the house because where I join the main road I have to give way on a steep incline, and due to the transmission pulling away in 2nd gear all the time:confused: I leel it's too much strain on it, so select 1st to pull onto the main road. I do wish it would select 1st for itself...
