I have a 1983 W123 200D and after replacing the bonnet star yesterday the bonnet is jammed shut. The release cable is fine and I'm sure the mechanism has released but the new badge or fitting it has somehow wedged the bonnet shut against the slam panel. Has anyone had a broken release cable and figured out how to release the mechanism while the bonnet is shut? I'd rather not destroy the new badge to get it open but I will if I have to!!

Cheers

It seems to me the lock has jammed --when the cable is pulled and it pops up a bit and sticks its tongue out for you to pull ? Try and pull the cable just that bit extra and get help to press sharply and firmly downwards on the front of the bonnet at the same time-- it may do it then resett the lock and grease it.
If still not moving try and get hold of the tongue through the grill with some pliers --be very careful though as the plastic can snap off very easily--good luck -let us know how you get on ?
Teddy.

Is the handle still operating or is it slack, a downward pressure on the bonnet with someone holding back the release handle, and try pulling the bonnet up with someone pulling the handle
