Now this is a bit of me, I stripped and painted one many years ago with a friend, very ahead of its time, lots of different configurations during production, the early ones rotted bad but bodies were made in italy ;) (make your own punchline) The West Brom boys made a better job and with a mate from Coventry came up with the "FF" which was the big one, 7.2 litre 330bhp The mate was Ferguson tractors who were pioneering four wheel drive for F1 in the late 50`s. I worked for Bosch automotive for 28 years and had to listen to many people over the years claiming Bosch invented ABS all the while knowing that Dunlop designed it in Brum and fitted it to Fire engines and the FF (which has a longer front because of 4x4 which accounts for the double shark gill louvre instead of smaller single louvre on RWD models, I would have one of these in a heartbeat if I had a friend in OPEC who could get ma a staff discount! It was no coincidence that the 1976 oil slump and world recession came about when Jenson closed its doors for production :D

Is it not that Bosch invented the electronic ABS rather than the Maxaret mechanical aviation derived ABS. Ford originally offered a Maxaret belt driven type ABS on the Escorts of the day. Merc might have been the first to offer electronic ABS but Ford was the first to fit it as standard ie to the Granada/Scorpio)

Yep have to agree on that point, i worked at a ford dealership and never liked the new shape Granada compared to the Mk11 and the Scorpio was just hideous and never really took off if i remember rightly?

The early Vignale Italian built cars are sought after and fetch a premium, there were less than 65 built of the 1024 MkI cars built so probably fairer to say the West Brom built cars rot!

I thought the Mk.3 Granada was actually quite nice...my dad bought a new 2.0 Ghia in 1990 and it was lovely.
As stated it was the first high volume production car to have anti lock brakes fitted as standard throughout the range.
It was only called Granada in the UK and Ireland with the Scorpio name being used elsewhere. Scorpio was used as the top trim spec and a Cosworth version here before the Granada name was dropped altogether in the mid 90's. Then it was given a completely redesigned front and rear and we all know how that went. :p
Yes it flopped spectacularly.

Oh yes they were comfy and drove well but for me it was just the look of them....actually saw one a few weeks back in Brighton, looked in great condition but still looked ugly in my opinion , prob worth a lot of money now?

The Mk.3 Granada was a nice car, so you must be referring to the heavily redesigned very last model badged as Scorpio only.
If you seen one of these no it will not be worth a lot of money. :D

Yes it was the Scorpio , just thought that old Fords now are collectable now but maybe not many are after this particular model?

Yes many old Ford models can be highly collectible and valuable, but the last Scorpio is not one of them because it was a massive flop for Ford.
It had a face only a mother could love. :D

Yes the wide mouth frog look just never caught on
I believe it was Jeremy Clarkson that used that description for it, and he certainly wasn't wrong. :D

I drove a mates dad's 2.8 Ghia X Granada in 1983, while still at school aged 18. (I had passed my test). Stunning car, it was the first automatic I had ever driven, I still remember it to this day. Fast and wafty. I am pretty sure my mate's dad had no idea we were tooling around in it. It was an X reg, so 1981/82 ? Would that make it a mark III ? It had the angular body work as I recall.

It had tinted glass, electric windows, and a sunroof and a shed load of options. Things I had never seen on a car.

I almost don't want to see one nowadays (if there any left), it might not live up to the memories I have, like an old girlfriend.

I think the design team looked in the fish tank that day, selected a bottom feeder and the management ran with it.

Didn't Jack Regan drive a Consul GT?
Technically he wasn't allowed to drive it thats why he always had a driver.
The early Granadas were badged Consul because apparently Ford were not allowed to use the Granada name that they wanted to at that time.
NHK 295M The registration has always stuck in my head. :geek:

I thought the MkIV Zephyr/Zodiac was replaced by the Consul and Granada?
