Well just to update this. The gearbox behaviour got worse. Had it diagnosed, checked for updates, looked at oil etc but to no avail.
I drew the line at let’s do a full oil flush and see what happens. My indi was honest to say he is not going to guarantee that this will solve it.
Mounts were checked as well to see if they were contributing to this and steering wheel vibration at low speed manoeuvring, but again no cigar.

Sadly, being burned twice in quick succession in the space of 3 years, I decided to call it quits and try out a different brand.

I will still be around to offer the odd helpful post as of when I have the knowledge, but most importantly thank you for all your help guys and girls.

Sad to hear this but given your posts and dissatisfaction I can’t say I blame you or be surprised
Just got a dud which can happen in any brand to be honest ...
Anyway good luck wherever you go now

Loving the brand isn't enough - the cars have to work. I hope you find something more rewarding.

Thanks for the kind words peeps. I just didn’t want to face the bills I had with my 07 CLS. Sure enough brings some memories with over 3k in repairs in 2 years. Fingers crossed I may well end up coming back in few years time.

If the car in your sig is what you've replaced it with I have to admit I think you've gone the right direction, the 5GT is a very nice place to be, I was almost tempted by one recently but couldn't get on with the crashy run flats it had plus the odd size wheels it also had

Good luck with the new car I’m sure it will bring back a smile, after all that’s why we buy them. My son has a 4 series grand coupe on contract that has been so good (faultless) that I’m thinking of buying it ex lease.

@V6Matty and @malcolm210 yes, the car in the signature is the replacement. Matty I am not too sure what you mean about the ride though. Mine is an M Sport, but is on the 19s and is on standard suspension.

That's interesting, I tried an MSport on 18's and it was very crashy, maybe it was just theone I tried and if you like it and haven't found a problem then tats all that matters.

Dare I say it, I’m finding it to be less crashy than the E class.

I came across the gearbox reset procedure on You Tube (I used to do the same on my old 4WD Ssangyong/Daewoo Musso (which is built on Mercedes running gear although the transmission on many of them was a special Borg Warner unit) so out of interest I searched for any comments here and found this thread. While feeling sorry that member Mr Filipov suffered so much that he moved over to a Beemer :alien:, once again it's disappointing to read a story showing that those who sell the Mercedes brand either live in ivory towers or just simply don't care enough (and either reason is very sad).

Unfortunately that is the case. As it stood I was not prepared to spend 4 figure sums to get it sorted as afterwards it would have been worth the same.

I know that this is poor mentality, but my view was why should I sort it out my own pocket when the car is under warranty and is not right.

I don't think it's poor mentality at all - from your point of view it was a "commercial" decision i.e.: no difference between your decision and accident insurers deciding that the cost of repair outweighs the residual value of the insured car etc

Still, enjoy your BMW! People on here (often quite correctly) knock Beemer drivers but I find drivers of 5-series and above are fine - they have nothing to prove! So: sad to see you go but do pop back in now and then!

Can’t get rid of me I’m afraid. I’m like a bad smell haha. I prefer the friendliness of the Mercedes community to be honest. Just because I’m in a different brand, doesn’t mean I’m not around to offer what knowledge I gathered over the years with Mercedes :)

If Mercedes let you down on this one there is always a goodwill repair and they should have advise you that. You should send complaint directly to Germany as I did!
Otherwise, stop waisting your time and money and visit Vanmatic in Hayes. They are one of the rare specialists for auto gearboxes especially for MB! Mr. Paresh will help you out!
Mercedes benz as service in UK is the most appalling service I ever came across in my entire life! And I am in automotive industry for more than 15 years. Sadly, they don’t have will to help and sort the problem as they are lazy monkeys!!!

All done and dusted, forgotten about. I wanted to prevent gearbox failure which could leave me on the side of the road, not wait for it to happen before MB pull a finger out. Car came out of warranty, there were no fault codes at any point during the whole process, and all they would have said is “Sorry, no codes, no problem, this one is on you.” Same with the vibration when turning the wheel. Everyhing was checked over by my indi bar the rake. If nothing else is causing, then that leaves one problem. MB went to me “Sorry, can’t hear it.”

Like I have said before, for one problemstic car there are many thousands that have no issues at all, but that combined with the poor service from MB tipped me over. I had to email the head of business for Sytner to get some attention for a faulty stat because normal operating temp was between 70 and 110 according to the service dept. 6 months and emailing the head of business to get a faulty part swapped. What are the odds for goodwill?

Anyway enough of that. I am now happy. That was the bottom line, and like I said, thousands of happy customers with cars with no faults. Luck of the draw bud.

This is a sad tale indeed, don't blame you for getting rid. I have a 722.9 in my car, sounds like the 722.6 is more reliable. What did you get to replace it if you don't mind me asking?
