Hi can anyone help with a problem I am having with my E240 about two months ago I had to replace my ignition switch at a cost of £500 I don’t know if this has any bearing on what is happening now. The other day when starting her up it didn’t sound right and gave a sever jump when putting her in gear both reveres and forward and when driving she wouldn’t change gear so stopped switch of and re-started every thing all right this has been intermittent since then. I would be most grateful if anyone has an idea what is causing this.

Check the battery first before doing anything else. There are posts here saying this can happen when the battery is bad. I have been there too but eventually had to replace some sensors in the transmission at 117k.

Have you checked the idling speed.?...if it's too high, you will get the problem you mention.
