Just a quick hello from a newbie

Just bought my 2nd Mercedes.
1st was a '96 E320 Avantgarde, 138,000 miles +, now got a 2001 CLK320 as a replacement.
Only just found this forum, so will spend the next few days browsing round looking for answers to my many questions, and then post some of mine (once I find the relevant sections :grin: )
There hopefully won't be too many from me though.

Oh ... Mark 1 Cortina! Simplicity personified! Gearbox out, clutch change complete on one's own in under two hours! But, oh dear, that rubber bush steering link .........

post up with anything that gives you trouble. Someone here knows the answer, and will probably help. That's how I came to this happy place, and I can't seem to get away.
I remember my Dad's Mk1 1500. It didn't like water. If someone spat two streets away, the ignition would cut out. Lovely bench seats and column change in that nice petrol blue Ford did. Nothing like branding your back on a molten plastic seat in weather like this, then welding your hands to a bakelite steering wheel. Happy days.

I remember my dads Mark 1 Cortina too...kept it for 2 years and it seemed to know its own way to the garage, it went there so often......white, red bench seats, metal everywhere and a huge steering wheel. Replaced it with a Hillman and then a Mercedes 220SEb.....some car but I remember it breaking down with a failed alternator [reasonable] and MB leaving him stranded [not acceptable]. He never bought another Ford, funny he never bought another Merc either, replaced it with a Jaguar. Funny, I only had one Ford too, not much changed in 30 years......a Peugeot [still have it] then the Merc and not much changed there in 40 years either. Their cars may have improved but the service did not. Time stands still....
