Hi all, just bought a 92 190D 2.5. I only paid £125 so I didnt expect a perfect car. When its cold its misfiring quite badly at low revs, when it revs up its fine and very smooth. When warm its missing a little on tickover and there is some diesel knock. On the road its really slow but it sounds ok and its not smoking much. Ant thoughts ideas?? Cheers Alex.

Its pretty slow but useable, will manage cruising at 80-90. just need to rev the hell out of it to get it to make decent progress. Will deffo change filters and oil etc as a starting point but im pretty sure there are some more serious issues.

Sounds as if your injectors need overhauling this would cause the uneven tick over and the diesel knock; it won’t help the performance either. First thing I would do is change the air filter and both fuel filters, there is a small inline filter next to the passenger side engine mounting that is often forgotten

The 250 shouldn't really smoke at all. It sounds like you've got an air leak, maybe a blocked fuel or air filter and/or the thing's just old & tired

250-engined cars are dog-slow as standard. Just rev it to 4 and a bit - they're difficult to kill

If it's misfiring when cold maybe it's got a dead glow plug or two

For £125 I wouldn't worry too much. Change the filters & just drive it. But be warned that in a couple of years time you'll discover you really like it and wish you'd looked after it better!

Have a look at the fuel thermostat for leaks it’s the black unit that is located just above the passenger side engine mounting with 4 pipes on it they are notorious for leaking

I have ditched the clogged air filter and that has made a difference. I found out that the car started life as a 2.0 petrol so it has been messed about with quite a bit! I also noticed that there is what i assume is a vac pipe going for one part of the injector pump to another. Not sure if thats how its meant to be or if they have done that just to tie up two loose ends? Has anyone got one of these they could have a look at for me? It's a non turbo btw. Could well be an air leak will check for that too....alex
