After a break of some six years I thought I would re-vist this excellent site. People were very helpful back in 2001 when I was having a problem with the 190e I had at the time.
Well, I took the plunge this evening and bought a 1980 450 SLC in the murky autumn twilight with a small torch, without a test drive and on gut instinct.
I didn't get to see the car properly until requiring fuel after some fifty miles of driving later. I had fallen so deeply in love with the car by then, that had I been presented with a rusty perforated old nail I don't think it would have mattered too much.
The petrol station forcourt was bathed in 50kW of xenon-like light and I got out to have a proper look at what I'd just acquired. Joy would be a gross understatement. This 27 year old car looks absolutely superb with just two small blisters that will require attention eventually. The torque this car produces is amazing and the sound it makes is superb. The car just feels so special
I realize it wont be long before I'm posting questions asking how to fix this or that, but for the moment I'll enjoy the honeymoon!
It's good to be back.
