Hi there, Im new to the forum and picked up my first merc, an 02 CLK320, 209 shape with 60k on the clock on Friday.
Its got absolutley everything enabled on it and im thrilled to bits as its a very smooth driving car. It's saying I need a service in a 1000 miles but am going to put it in this week so that the MB guys can see if there are any horrors hidden anywhere..

I have a question as it has the nokia phone interface wired in and Ive seen Command bluetooth cradles on Comand Online (I want to get a Blackberry Bold working handsfree).

They are saying that the W209 CLK class after the facelift in 2004 uses the MOST system and that the W209 CLK class before the mid 04 facelift uses the D2B system. I am almost sure that mine would be the D2B but cannot figure out what the facelift is that they are talking about?
I have seen 06 CLK's which in my very uneducated opinion look just like my 02?

Sorry for the newbie question but its a 300 quid unit and I want to make sure that I order the right one.

Another thing is that I have read on the forum that these models had the dreaded Valeo radiator problem. How can I find out what mine has and do you think its worth getting this changed considering its done 60k miles?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Mike

Welcome to the forum! You have a lovely car. How about posting some pictures?

Regarding the phone, just email comand.co.uk with your query and include your VIN and they will be able to confirm one way or the other.

Others will be along soon to advise baout the Valeo issue.

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
All 2002 cars are D2B and MOST not started till late 03 on.

Re the rad, try and read the makers name on it,if it is a Behr, then you have no problems, if it is a valeo you could buy a new rad circa £125 and fit it, it could make sense

Have taken it down to an independent specialist called merc services in London who have given everything the all clear after giving it an A service, changing part of the exhaust, spark plugs, filters etc. and the car is going very nicely indeed. Im well chuffed.

One thing I have noticed though, is that the front left dipped beam comes up with a malfunction after it runs for a few minutes. It looks like I need a new xenon bulb. I popped into Halfords and they could not help. Where is the best place to buy these bulbs?

There has been a lot of discussion on replacement xenon lamps (bulbs grow in the ground) on this forum recently. Just search this forum for lots of help.

Does the bulb malfunction, or does the dashboard say it is a malfunction? If the bulb seems to work OK, but you get a malfunction message, it could be fault which I think STAR might be able to rectify (others such as S-A-M will comment more authoritatively perhaps).

Such electrical defects can occur giving a spurious readout. Xenon bulbs are supposed to have a fair old lifespan and your car is not that old.

Its strange, it was both (malfunction on the dash and the bulb stopped working) but last night I put the lights on auto and went for a drive and they both seem to have rectified themselves?!?!?!?! very strange indeed.

My CLk is 2003 and had a Valeo radiator, my local indie replaced it - with another Valeo rad as he told me that's what Mercedes supply. He has also given me a three year warranty!!

I have wondered since has someone else peviously changed the rad (as the old one looked like new) and there was no record.
