Recently had a letter from my insurers, the AA, basically saying that they cannot renew my expiring insurance policy to my W211 E55. So rang Arriva (ex norwich union) this afternoon, they have qouted, and I have paid £347, fully comp, protected policy, wife named as additional driver, also with two detailed mods on car, £350 access, and legal cover, £50 screen access etc. I am 52 years old, clean license. Told the guy on the end of the phone, "its not right, something amiss here", he insists he has checked everything, and its all ok. I can quiet imagine when I get the paperwork, it will all be a big **** up. But for the moment thinking £347 is unblievably cheap! But cant be right surely.

I recently insured my CLK 320 with them for just over £200 so yours sounds about right. Good innit. :)

I only pay £260 with Admiral for two drivers, fully comp.
Yours sounds expensive! :)

I thought car insurance was going up not down, or is it that I have now reached the perfect age and am no longer a liability, sensibility, knowledge, wisdom, road craftsmanship, etc etc, if so, its all down hill from now on, best I make the most of it while I can.

I had a nice letter from Direct Line today with a voucher for a free winter care kit from Hellfrauds. I called in there today and although the voucher was for £9.79 I was given the £9.99 winter car care kit. Whilst I won't use the scraper or the de-icer on my car it is handy for the Caravelle. :)

My insurance is *soooo* expensive.

I'm 26 - 4 years NCB. Had 3 points in 2005 for TS10 (slid through a damn red light cameras), but think they are gone now, though I still list them as in the last 5 years. A few non fault claims (Old car written off in a flood. and it's replacement was crashed into the day it was delivered...).

Brand new (not even delivered :p) CLC180K used to commute.

Adding both my parents reduces my policy by several hundred...

Cheapest quote I can find is ~ £850.

I cannot wait for the day when my insurance quote seems cheap and so as a young (I think) driver I sympathise with girlygeek and look forward to getting old! :)

I suspect an E55 AMG is considered to be a somewhat higher risk than a CLK 220 CDi.

You might be surprised how little difference it makes. the CLK is group 16 & my last car was only group 10, but they both cost the same to insure.

I think the value of the car, age of the driver, his insurance history and other criteria are more relevant than the insurance group nowadays.

That doesn't seem so bad when i crashed my first car some 15 years ago i got a quote for £1600  to insure a 12 year old Renault 21 as a replacement. Now older, probably not much wiser insurance a lot cheaper, the joys of being young!

While everyone naturally focuses on the price of their policy it is only part of the picture. The service you get for your money in the event of a claim is really the true measure of a policy's value. Unfortunately this is not really tested until you have an accident.

If you're a new customer, Norwich will jump thru hoops first time around. After that, the increases will come thick and fast. I should know, I've had 3 cars with them over the last few years.
