A Class sport executive auto
Hi Everyone
I bought a 70 plate A class Sport Executive Auto 3 days ago from a Mercedes dealer. More tech than my Mk 7 Golf Auto so still working my way through it.
My main issue relates to the handbrake and auto hold so I am looking for some help please.
The auto hold on my Golf was just a push button. The quick and rather abrupt response from the dealer was, when you stop press the brake hard and it will activate.
Not managed it yet, any advice please.
Secondly and most alarming relates to the handbrake. Used to traditional gear lever for selecting drive so using the stalk does not come natural. The handbrake button positioning seems strange as well. Took the car to a deserted road and parked up. Handbrake on , put the car in drive and wanted to check how good the handbrake was. To my surprise as soon as I touched the accelerator the handbrake RELEASED and the car took off. I found that very disturbing. Is this right or is it faulty. We can all make mistakes in parked situations. If I had done that on my drive I would have gone through the garage door !
I would be extremely grateful for any help. Thank you

Ive just spoken to my best mate who like a brother to me , he has a C63 AMG, last of V8's made, he is on another MB forum and he says all they do on there is bitch about one another :-( i told him none of that happens on here as we are a friendly bunch always happy to help each other out and enjoy friendly banter with mild mickey taking but nothing malicious at all as it is not tolerated which is right. Seems i was right to join this one :)

Hi Everyone

Hello there. :)

When you come to a stop, traffic lights, junctions where you have to wait etc, after coming to a complete stop and still with your foot on the brake, give the pedal a quick but firm press and you should then get a hold light on the dash. It can take a couple of attempts...

The parking brakes are fully automatic and theoretically need no driver input. As mentioned earlier, the hold function is for waiting, the parking brake for parking. All you need to do is to put the car into park, switch off, get out and lock it. It will be automatically applied as soon as the door opens and will release as soon as you start driving again, as you found out. Basically it's a feature not a fault, though not to everyone's taste.

I would be extremely grateful for any help. Thank you

You're welcome. :D

Welcome - as said above, ”Hold” is an acquired technique but will seem natural once you’ve got it. Parking brakes on/off are automatic and I rarely have to use the button by my right knee.

Thank you. Went out last night and mastered the auto hold no problem. The handbrake still seems very strange. My wife won't drive it. She has a 2.0 tsi Seat Leon Xcellence Auto. She once put it in drive instead of reverse whilst parked in front of the garage. Went to the accelerator just before she released the handbrake. Luckily the handbrake held firm. If she did that in my car she would have probably gone through the garage let alone door.
I was going to get her a new CLA but is out of the question now.
Once again, thanks to everyone taking the time to help.
