Just looked at a R129 320 1994 up for £4000, red with cream leather interior, interior obviously a bit worn after twenty years with a hole in the drivers door speaker cover, but no worn bolster.
Hood works but is in poor condition and would need replacing, i believe this costs around £800,is this correct?
The lcd display seems very faint for the odometer and outside temp,is this normal and how much does it cost to repair( or if its worth it)
The car was advertised as having air con but it hasn't, i must say it dos'nt bother me that much but will it make it hard to sell on?
Car is showing 69000 miles, with some history, good tyres and just a scuff on one corner of the bumper and a small area of rust on the back rhs of the hard top, drove really well, if any of you could comment upon any of the above i would be most gratefull

I tried out a SL500 W129 a few months back, they are lovely cars and a step up in quality from my g-wagen. Very tempting and to me incredible value compared to say its predessesor the w107

A lot of choice out there too. Plenty to have a look at.

I would want aircon for sure

the Almandine one looks nice. I would recommend a V8, as the economy wont be much different between the two - they should all have aircon. after driving a 500 with the roof down i would feel short changed with anything less.

the later dark blue one also looks nice - however i have an aversion to beige steering wheels, and the AMG alloys, while looking nice, will be a fortune to replace when you need a rear set of tyres.

I avoided the ADS, and the 5 speed autobox as its not as bulletproof as the 4 speed. I also preferred the earlier interior too. 1993-1995 can have wiring loom issues, but you should be able to see issues by tell tale unexplainable electical faults, and finding part of the harness under the bonnet - the insulation goes hard and drops off.

Aircon is nice, it helps with demisting if nothing else. Just look at all the replies on here to see if matters or not, it will affect resale. I use it full blast with the roof down in this hot weather as Malcolm says

I like the dark blue V8 with the amg alloys, early too so from what I have gathered it must be ke-jetronic:)

Depends how your gonna use the car.If your gonna drive it everyday and do a lot of miles and will be sitting in traffic etc then aye probably air con will be a lovely bonus if not essential. On the other hand if your use the car like I do which is just to and from work with no traffic involved with the odd weekend drive then air con isn't missed or needed at all.I've had mine for nearly 6yrs now and it's never once bothered me.

That SL on autotrader looks a real nice car, with nice miles and nice price, the fact it hasn't got air con wouldn't put me off at all and I would very much doubt if it would affect resale at all.

The problem is it restricts your market when it comes to resale. People expect aircon in a merc, regardless of how useful it is.

I nave decided not to buy it because it needs a new hood, the bonnet sound proofing was in poor condition and no aircon. If anyone else fancies it, the dealer wants rid and came down on the price, private message me if you want to know the price he offered me, i dont think its fair for me to put out the price he offered it to me.
I have to say it drove very well with no noises and felt tight and stable. Lots of people say you need the 500 but let me tell you this was very quick and sounded great!, so the 5 L v8 must be awesome!
I think i have bought something else but will know for sure tomorrow, will keep ya all posted!
