I have a 59 plate CLC200 CDI. I believe the key is knackered as I have changed batteries and it does nothing. It wont release steering lock or 'release' anything like it would normally do when I insert into ignition. Is it something I have to purchase from Mercedes at a cost of around of £300 or will one of Ebay or alike work? Thanks

Does the key open the door with the remote?
You don't need a battery in the key for it to release the steering lock.

I have a feeling your problem is not the key but your ESL (Electronic Steering Lock)
Have a look at this video and see if this replacates your problem

In the meantime, you may want to get another key from the main dealer. You'll need your V5 and some ID to order it and its around £240 last I heard. A second key is pretty vital if you lose your only one.

^ In that case, the PCB inside the key is probably damaged.

Where is your location as the key can be repaired?

Birmingham, London and somewhere in the N East can repair the key.

The second link will travel from London to fix the key. No idea on cost though.

Ok, I went to Mercedes and had to order a genuine replacement that now works. They said it didn't need coding so when I returned to the car it worked fine. I want to get the old key repaired so I have a spare, is there anywhere that will do a postal repair? I tried those 3 links and they seem to think it can't be repaired and I will have to pay another £240 from Mercedes if I want a spare. Anymore ideas please?
