Key stuck in ignition!

Hello,
I have a 1998 320 Estate Petrol Avantage, I only recieved 1 key a plastic one with the spade incorparated within it, it unlocked the car but would not lock so I locked the car door by door, was cleaning the dash with the key in the ignition and pressed the locking button on the dash, now when I turn the ignition and start the car its fine but the turn off and it is stuck, it has started to emit 3 bleeps when I switch off the ignition.
How do I get the key out and will it require new batteries?

Hello,
Managed to take the key out OK, if I use the button to lock the car through open window the key unlocks as normal but willnot lock on the fob!
Still require help.

Just one thing while working out your problem, the key should not be left in the ignition, this can cause it to stick

Hi Malcolm,
Have taken key out of the ignition , I'm still no further forward on my problem, but maybe someone else will recognise the symtems and have an answer.
