Hi everybody,
my first post since joining this forum.
just bought a '98 C240 elegance - well pleased with it.
Anyway -
Had a problem the first time the wife went to drive it when she siad it wouldnt unlock!
Eventually i used my key to unlock it, she got in and tried to start it and it wouldnt start, my key started it fine.
Faulty key! so a trip to the dealers (or stealers as i see they are affectionately known) they kindly put the key on a tester (didnt see them do it) and said the key was faulty, a new one would cost £105 +vat.
So i went straight to this forum and did a search.
there was an entry from Joe Bloggs where he said to leave the key in the ignition, and see if the keys code aligns itself with the car,
after 30 mins i took the key out, and it worked!!
So the stealer tested the key - yeah right -
if anybody has a similar issue i would try everything before buying a new key, seems they may be easy money for them.
