Hi,

I'm new so bear with me :)

I've got a 1996 e 300. I dropped the fob today and the batteries fell out. I replaced them then went to get something from the car. I pressed the button on the fob but nothing happened, i.e. the alarm didn't disable and the doors unlock.

I tried a few times from various angles in case it was something stupid but still no joy. Used the key to open the door but as soon as it opened the alarm went off. Also tried to start the car and it wouldn't "catch", which means the imobiliser is at least working.

The fob has one button and the "switchblade" key blade.

Can any one help?? I did try to phone MB but all they said was they'd need to tow it to their yard to inspect.

Thanks,
Chris

You could have the batteries in the wrong way up, do a test with a digital camara, point it at the lens and press, you will see it in the camara if it is OK.

W124 or W210 model?

Some cars (but none I've ever seen) are said to have an alarm shutoff in the back of the glovebox

There may be a shutoff keyswitch on the alarm siren - all aftermarket units have this

If it's a late W124 with RCL remote locking & flipout key I think the cars are almost impossible to get going without the correct key. They can be ordered from a dealer and will take 3-5 days

The light comes on... which is a start... but it still doesn't de-activate the alarm... :(

morning all...

got the car working last night... the AA man came out and was there for about an hour before coneding defeat. I then had a look at the key and there was a bit missing under the led housing. I went back and looked where i dropped the key and i found what i thought was just another bit of housing, turns out that the bit of "housing" turns off the immobiliser... :)

Alls well that ends well (well apart from the battery being flat and me having a rubbish key :) )

Thanks for all you help.
