Is there anyway to change how ones kickdown operates?

For example, make it 'harsher' or more consistent?

I took the W126 500 Se for a drive for the first time in a couple weeks, and i noticed that its not kicking down like it did when i was driving it regularly?

Which is odd, although when i switched it to 'E' mode from 'S' it seemed to kickdown better.

Do these cars learn your driving style depending what mode your in?

No memory on your non electric box and it will be a first gear start in S, if the engine is down on power it will not be lively. What happend at 30mph if you floor it.

You can adjust the kickdown cable to make the box kickdown earlier or later in throttle pedal travel.

There is an adjuster on the cable where it joins the throttle linkages; tightening this make the box 'think' you've got your foot down more than you have and as a result will be more eager to kickdown and hold gears.

Take the car for an Italian tune up first though!

Tel, it does kick down, but sometimes it kicks down heavily, and other times it doesnt kick down so hard.

There is the odd occasion she doesnt kick down even when planting it.

When she goes she really does keep going. She only has 64k on the clock, with full history, and as you know, for a 5 litre v8 old W126 block shes just about being 'run in';)

Whats that then? lol

Standard fault on all MB's that have a fuel pump relay, they go open circuit on one of the tracks on the PCB this can give poor or no kick down.

Anyway to improve this then?
Would the adjusting of the kickdown cable make it kickdown stronger then?

What about the kickdown switch? Should it not always kickdown once the button at the end of the accelerator is pressed?

Adjusting just makes the kickdown early or later, and does nothing for the quality of the shift.
