Hello gents,
I'm hoping that one of you can help me with this problem. My recent purchase of a 1980 300 cd will not turn off at times after the ignition has been switched off (can run for hours til i kill it by starving it's fuel). so my solution is to install a kill switch to also act as an anti theft device, however, there is no typical gasoline ignition system (coil) nor does chilton discuss the ignition switch wiring. is there an alternative? I'm a former bmw Tech trying to figure M-B diesel technology. thanks in advance for any comments................

Moderm diesel engines have a solenoid on the fuel injection pump on the engine to stop the fuel flow. Appears that either your solenoid or the wiring is faulty.

Your Mercedes
A diesel
This car employs a vacuum element on top of the injection pump to cut the engine.
The diapragm will be split so leaking vacuum. Buy a new element from either the dealer or Bosh diesel centre.

On these, one way to help theifproof the car is to interrupt the power to the starter solenoid. As dieselman said, however, the ingnition switch is also a vacuum valve which operates the stop actuator on the injection pump (same as manually pushing the stop lever on the pump). Try fitting a new diagphragm and this may solve your stopping problems.
