How to replace a duovalve.

My duovalve is knackered on my W202, pre face lift. Could you kindly describe the process of replacing it to me?

Thank you.

Have a look at the Duovalve thread in the DIY section. I would be amazed if your duovalve wasn't very similar in design and construction.

On the 202 it's usually just in front of the brake fluid reservoir under the bonnet driver's side

P.S. Lovely morning here in N.Wales so just popped out and took a photo for you, dovalve arrowed

This was originally posted onto the end of your Duovalve how to so I can only assume he has already read and dismissed that.:(

If you are using windows then open the relevant picture using "Paint" from start - programs - accessories. You can then use the paint brush to add things to your picture. Then save it back as a jpg file. Also useful for removing No. Plates :)

Any photo editing program like the Ulead Photo plus,Photo Editor, colorpilot,Paint shop pro.and all of Adobe photo shop CDs Card readers and the window photo editor allow you to do this.
This one I did on the Cannon software that came with my camara, you just select the tool and away you go.

Most of these things should be available where you are,you can always use the Windows version.

Appologies for ambushing your thread here. Actually the pictures posted by Ultymate and Malcolm show you what the heater Duo Valves look like so finding them on your car will be easy. On some models they are refered to as (after running pumps). The reason for this is that after you switch the engine off, these pumps keep on circulating the coolant to bring the engine temperature down and at a certain temperature the switch off. So along with the heating the have a duel purpose. They are a common problem because in the summer they are overworked (cooling side) and in the winter they are overworked cooling and heating side. Here we change a few parts in the valves and put them back, dont know if this is possible in UK.

I forgot to mention, changing the duo valves is a very simple nuts/bolts/pipe connection job ( no worries) however, after change refill with water to start. Then bring the engine to normal working temperature with the header tank cap off, also set the heating to full, this will facillitate the bleeding of air from the system. If you dont do this, the system can air lock and cause the car to overheat. Once this has been done, check for water leaks. If no leaks you can now drain the water, add coolant and repeat the process. If you dont understand any part of this then please reply and Ill explain.;)

Thanks for that input Malcolm, I only have a couple of hours in the evening to look at this forum. However duo valve/pump are still used today on certain models. Here people like the bigger cars, mainly S and R class. Bigger the better they seem to approve. So my experience on the C and E class is a little lacking. So I appologize if i make a mistake. However the duo valve, as i have said is a simple job to do and as long as the system is bled properly-no problems.
