Knocking noise under dashboard

Hi

I have a 2001 C Class Benz C200 Kompressor and it has started to devlop a a noise under the dashboard...happens when the car is either running or on ignition....very loud repeated knocking noise at about the centre of the dashboard....i have no idea on what it could be....seems to be uneffected by the fan heater...any help on diagnosis would be much appreciated!!

This sounds like a heater flap motor fault, try the re set.

I wouldn't doubt Malcolm's diagnosis, but I had something similar to this on my previous car, a 2003 C270. It was like a clicking sound which didn't happen everytime, but quite often on start up. MB had the complete dash out (warranty thankfully) and replaced some plastic gears associated with the ventilation system. When I got the car back the noise was still there, so I took it back and another technician came out and sat in the car, switched on the ignition and immediately said 'I know what that is' Ordered a new radio/CD player, swapped them over and job sorted. Apparently it was the drive on the CD player that had worn out, or something like that. A bit embarassing for the service manager, but eh oh. In fairness to him, the noise did sound like (and probably was) a plastic gear that was jumping over the mating part

Hi All. I'm a newbie to this forum but owned C classes for a while. had a C270 & now got a CLK500 (2003). I've had the CLK for 3 yrs now & it always had the clicking from behind the dash & its never been a problem, however I'm now feeling brave enough to fix it. The clicking starts when I turn the key to 2 & lasts for about 40 seconds with 5 second intervals. It sounds like it is right behind the upper dashboard cup holder. can anyone suggest which motor this might be & is it a dashboard out job or can it be done with just the centre console & radio/satnav removed. I could really do with getting the repair parts ready for the job.
Apologies for asking so much on an intro mail, hope someone can point me in the right direction

I know this is an old post, but does anyone know if a fuse can be pulled to stop the clicking ?
