Lack of acceleration under throttle. Engine check light ?

Hi folks just chasing a problem on a car I’ve just bought
2002 w210 e220 has no kick down and struggles to accelerate past 2500rpm.
Already done a ton of research on possible issues.
Ordered my OBD adapter but need to ask a question
Should the engine check light come on when ignition is switched on and then go out after start ?
Thing is I don’t seem to have the light ???

Yes, the warnings lights should come on then go out after a few seconds

As I thought. But I’ve just found the owners manual and in the text it says ( petrol models)

Hi jacques here from south africa..

Have a w204 cdi 220 646 engine. Keeps telling glow plug module faulty.fitted new glows plugs etc.. Car battles to start wen hot or cold and goes into limp wen accelerated hard for about3km...anybody had similar problems
