When the engine is running and the side lights are switched on the 'Lamp Failure' warning light comes up on the dash - but I dont have a light out!!
If I switch the engine off (and reset the warning indication) I can switch ALL the lights on (with the ignition on but engine not running) and the warning light does not come on until I start the engine? This problem is driving me nuts! Any ideas?

Is it possible to 'link out' or disable the warning indicator so that it does not illuminate ever again! ?

Thanks

Ian

Lamp out

If you have an incorrect wattage lamp ie 100w headlamp bulb, that will do it,the system normally measures; side, main, dipped and tail lamps, faulty brake lamp will show up when you press brake pedal.

Had an ongoing problem with rear light bulbs burning out for years on a 124 300TE with the subsequent lamp out warning light. Turned out to be that wrong wattage bulbs had been used before I bought the car and I just kept changing them with the same spec without realising it (bulbs would used to last about a year).
Best to check that all bulbs fitted are the correct wattage by referring to the spec in the user manual.
Hope this helps!

I had a problem on the 210. Warning light coming on with the brakes but all seemed ok. Replaced the bulbs anyway and ok for a few days then back to normal again. Fiddled with them and ok, but started warning again soon after. Then I noticed that one brake light was a bit brighter than the other even though the bulbs were identical. Turned out to be oxidisation on the contacts. Cleaned up both sides with a bit of wire wool and eased the contacts back up to make a better connection at the same time. Been fine since.

Replace the rear lamp bulb holders, they are cheap and are a known source of trouble.
