This will be my last thread as I'm now selling my CLK 230 Komp 9 years of age due to my disappointment with th last couple of months which started when my wifes Smart started making a front left noise! We quickly got Merc of Pompey(Ridgeway) to take a look! which seemed to have a solution so after 2 man hours workshop time paid plus steering bits replaced - we took Marty away but 2 weeks later back again! Sorted with no cost to us, stated thats it sorted! at last !
3rd Visit co-insided with MOT so no problems with MOT just 2 rear tyres but then tell us that the noise had been traced to the third party side skirt rubbing against the wheel arch panel ???? So 1 MOT certificate and £500ish labour bills we've got what we went in the first for.

Whilst all that was going on my MERC goes into MERC of Southampton (Ridgeway) for Paint Warranty request on paint bubbles around all wheel arches, this is rejected due to only having owned the car for 6 months 1 week! Then have recently an issue with a Pulley bearing making a noise, front left of engine so take car back to Portsmouth after waiting 2 days for them to sort their computer network cliches out, they refuse to talk to my warranty company which is not Merc's and I've got no other option then to get car back fom them!

The up shot is that the bearing replacement will cost me £80 to pay the German Engineering Repair Company just by Port Solent to sort it out! and I've not had to wait as he's doing tomorrow for me!

Second up-shot is I've bought my replacement car, picking up this Friday and sold the CLK inside an hour on ebay! after being offered a trade-in book price of £2250 which is a joke!

Best up-shot ..., replacement is never ever going to be a MERC ever again!! I waited nearly 25 years to own my own MERC now its been a nightmare!

PS.., I would like to Thank the Forum for helping me a couple of times when I phoned MERC with no reply but contacted you guys and got answers within 5 minutes!!!!

I am extremely sorry to hear that you have been so let down. Best wishes and better luck with whatever manufacturer you have moved on to.

My re-action now is one of bitterness towards my manhood dreams of having my SL pagoda, green with Hard top circa 1970's £16,000 which will never be fulfilled because the way I've been treated by a major European Car Manufacturer representative in the UK.

I took my compliant recently to the Manager of this so-called Service provider and he, the manager, then only managed to call me 2pm on friday afternoon. But nothing since, not a call from their PR or Customer relations to enquire as to if I'm or my car are OK!

I call it damn right ignorance!

I've not bought the most expensive car on the car lot! maybe it might sound as if I've got a little chip on my shoulder but I've had many cars in my time but as they say on Top Gear a "petrol head" I maybe but as I've not ever owned a Alfa its not really true in my case but then who in their right mind would ever buy one anyway, I call that being an idiot even to think of buying an Alfa!

Guess what I put MERCEDES in the same company as an ALFA now!

Actually my daughter had an Alfa 164 2.4JTD absolutely brilliant car, only ever had to get the air con rejuiced..and only problem I found with the car was the suspension was too soft for bumpy minor roads......would certainly buy one without any hesitation...but it would have to be cheap..
And as for Merc..dont mind the slight electrical / mechanical malfunctions, the rust is my bugbear, it really puts me off the car...and the dealers couldnt care less attitiude

I think you are definitely in the minority. Shame you couldn't be a little more forgiving and try a 2nd Merc! I think you were a little unlucky, but good luck in the future as Alex has already said.:(

Having spent the last 56 years walking this earth I have had the chance to drive almost every business/rental car manufactured for the UK market upto and including 1999 when I choose to stop working 24/7 for a major Communications Service provider and get my life back!

You name it, if it was business class then I drove it.., not your Merc's, Not your BMW's, not Audi but all those that makeup 95% of the cars on our UK roads which gives me the right to know then that Mercedes where un-obtainable.

I Visited Mercedes Museum while working in Germany, sat in SL 55, DTM's etc looked and touched the first Merc every to propel a human being.., I have dreamt owning one for all my adult life! thats how much its in my blood but the feeling I got last Friday when the Service Manager refused, when asked by me, point blank to talk to my warranty company representive on my phone I realised that the dream was never ever going to come true because he didn't care enough to respect my request but to follow his business interests, his job, his life!

So he didn't care! Does Mercedes? yes, as long as you spend with them! but you say thats everybody, thats no different you say but it was to me!

That was my defining moment! Time for the dreaming to stop! I still have a passion for cars but Merc is now part of the 95%!

just one of many!

That was when I lost my silly dream, my passion.., if you've every had a real passion for anything then you'll know what I mean!

It's a shame that you've been let down so badly, but before you leave for good. We do have a couple of forum members who are independent specialists based in the Southampton/Portsmouth area.

If we all leave the bad dealers and take our work elsewhere then eventually the bad ones will die out.

Buying a 9 year old car with scabby arches and expecting MB to repair it for nothing was always going to be a tall order, as was hoping for warrenty on a pulley bearing which is afterall a wear item...

Whilst I can see why you're disillusioned with MB as a whole, the only one losing out there is you. If you want an SL then get one and steer clear of the dealer network.

I read it as that he had a third party warranty and MB didn't want to deal with them. I could be mistaken but didn't MB only recently change their requirements for length of ownership before rust repairs?

Who are you talking to?
Who knows.
