Hi Everyone

I've just taken delivery of a new C55 Estate (so I've joined MBA!). When I collected the car, the dealer has given me a version 4.0 disc for the Nav system. I don't think this is the latest disc - although they say it is and it is the disc that came with the car from the factory.

Does anyone know which is the latest version?

Also, does the disc come with the car, or does the dealer have to supply it? :-?

Any help gratefully received! Thanks.

I don't, but if you hear of a version 4.1 as being current, don't worry, that doesn't apply to you, I think. The current Navteq Harman/Becker COMAND APS DVD is v4.1, but that's only for:
CL 9/03
E 3/02
Maybach
S 9/03
SL 7/04
SLK 3/04

A 211 827 81 59

a good way will be to ring up a dealer in a different area and ask for advcie as tho you want to purchase the latest.

4.1 should be superseeded by the next edtion which has TMC enabled for the navteq ones.

I am currently enquiering as to why my 55reg 55 doesnt have TMC enabled. I have emailed Mercedes Benz and they have passed on my email to my local dealer.

will update this post as i find things out.

my argument is that when you spend £55k on a 55reg car it should have the latest version installed. if it doesnt i want to know when i can expect the latest verison being supplied to me.

I've been told a few times that it will be out "by the end of this year". Not very precise.

astounding customer service. apparently the latest version of the COMAND dvd will be due with retailers early next year. (Or so they tell me). they also mentioned the E-Class recall for this issue and are loading in DVD version 4.1. as this contains a 2002map of the UK it isnt really very good.

still, they assure me that I will receive the latest DVD with TMC enabled as soon as the retailer gets it and passes in on to me. Free of course.

I cant ask much more of them other than to make new owners aware. It seems that the sales staff were under an impression that the DVD supplied with the latest cars was the latest version, which it was, it is just that 4.1 is not the the new updated version, just the latest versions, if that makes sense.

even the service department was unaware of this issue till i pointed out.

so ask and if ordering DVD based SAT-NAV on your new Mercs, insist that they upgrade to the unpdated version as soon as they arrive, for free.

Shouldn't have too much trouble then i hope.

i had this dealt with by emailing the contact from www.mercedes-benz.co.uk contact section. I chose this route as the DVD version wasn't, in my opinion, a retailer issue.

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
Didn't MB pay compensation (I think I've seen £500 mentioned) to people who ordered Sat Nav but didn't get TMC.
I bought my Oct 04 C270 when it was 6 mths old, but I noticed that C-Class brochures at the time made no mention of TMC, so I presume they deleted the references to it. The DVD my car came with is V2.0
I'm hoping (but not confident) that I'll get an updated disk when it goes for service, as it has the roundabout exit numbering issue.

4.1 is the latest NAVTEQ verion of dvd for comand and is supplied with all new cars. however it isnt the updated version with TMC enabled. this will be due early next year. anyone buying a car with NAVTEQ 4.1 since septemeber should charge forth to their retailer and demand a complimentary copy on the TMC upgrade when they recieve it. Mercedes said in Mercedes Mag of Spring 2005, that all new cars would be supplied with it from September and others could buy it.

I expected it with the 55 i got on 7th Sept. one email to mercedes and a complimentary copy will be sent to me, via my retailer, as soon as it is released.

did you try it though? Traditionally, you've not been able to order MB discs from Navteq, and that doesn't seem to have changed.
The MB discs also include firmware, so that doesn't surprise me too much.
I do wish there was a subscription option here, like they have in the US.

Hi
there are two companies that supply MB (navtec and Tele atlas) we are entirely in there hands. for information the car comes with a cd/dvd from the factory so if your car has been stored for a long period the disc will be out of date, as well as the two companies supplying the disc there are variations on operating systemand media type , cd or dvd, to my knowledge there are at least 12 different versions out there and non of them have the M6 toll road on yet

TMC on Command

We have just bought two new Mercs. An ML and an A200. That is £65k in total. Both with Command and without the TMC function.

I have been in contact with Mercedes customer service(!) and they have basically told me to go away. This is despite the fact that they stated in the Spring edition of their customer magazine that it would be on all cars from September 2005. Their retort to this is that there is a disclaimer in the magazine against incorrect information.

I have every intention of taking this complaint to as many people in the Mercedes heirachy until I get what we have paid for. I am sick and tired of this company or it's dealers giving this gutter like customer service. Every time I buy a Mercedes I end up fighting them or the dealer for something.

So be warned, if you are buying a merc with command before TMC is officially available you will have to pay upto £250 per disk later on.

In the mean time if anyone has any comments, ideas or experiences based around this then please post a reply.

If you care to email mercedes from the contact address on thier website they will investigate this for you. they will also tell you the new disks are due in the early part of next year. your dealer should be aware of this.

if you got the car new from september onwards, the dealer should forward you a copy of the new disks when they are available FOC. but you will need to get on to customer services by email first. tell them what you thought you were getting and when you got it. you will also need to give them your car reg and VIN number. (This proves you have ordered COMAND). they will get back to you within 2 days.

The way MB themselves and Dealers have handled TMC is appalling. Its not surprising they are getting such a low rating in the JD Power Survey! I am even more unfortunate than most of you guys as I have a Feb 04 C-Class Coupe with every conceivable extra including the CD based COMAND DX. It was mis-sold to me by MB and the dealer as a system that would have Dynamic Route Guidance (DRG) with TMC. MB claim these systems too will have full TMC functionality in Jan 06. They won't be able to achieve this unless they reprogram COMAND DX to do this. Will they bother, do they care. NO is the response I have had so far. So my advice to all DVD based customers is to DEMAND free disks in January 06. The marketing have been pushing TMC & DRG since Jan 05 and MB literature / some dealers have misled customers since Dec 03 about TMC. They just hide behind "the disclaimer" idea. If they continue to do this then we can assume that anything in the sales literature may not be true unless we get it in writing from MB that it is! Perhaps MB marketing and MB literature producers should think about the consequences of what they write before doing so!

I've heard that MB paid compensation to some people who were told their cars would have dynamic route guidance.

Not sure if this is of any help....I just purchased a new DX disc (£129) for my 2003 S Class from Tele Atlas on 020 8230 3142. This has TMC on it, information supplied by Classic FM. I'm a self employed chauffeur living in the vicinity of the M25 and it works very well.
