Hi Guys,
I drive a R230 SL 500 and got a problem 3 weeks ago found water in the boot and the electrics started going crazy, anyway Mercedes fitted new seals but at a great ££££ cost.
My question is :Is this a common thing with the seals ,if so did Mercedes do a recall to fix the problem and has anyone had this problem?
Its going to break my heart to pay for this repair and hope I can get a loop hole and let Mercedes pickup the bill or some of it anyway ,the car is 4 years old with 23000 on it:rolleyes:

Hello and welcome to the forum, nice to have a member with the same car as me. There are no recalls for this problem, the seals were replaced where the owner was under the guarantee. Sadly many SL's sit in the garage for most of the winter and not many owners reported the problem. what where the problem with the electrics when your went down.

Hi thanks for the welcome,
As I was driving along everything on my dash would start flashing and going red even once while driving at night my lights were flashing on and off but had them on auto ,it would do it a few times then be ok.
Last week I had drops of water in the passager foot well went back to Mercedes and under the bonnet were the air intake for heater passager side was full of water the drain line was blocked had had filled up so I am again without my babe while things get checked out .
I had a CLK 320 before this and no problems in 2 and a half years but at the moment this is killing me and my bank balance.

Hi Mark, interesting about the CLK as there is a thread running today on a boot full of water.

Ok the unit that went down was the rear SAM, (signal aquasision module) that contrlos the locking and lighting. With the heavy down pour over the holiday,I got water in mine, but no damage.
for piece of mind I am going to waterfroof all of the rear components as the cost is stupid, and it is also hard to find a MB dealer that knows what he is doing, also rather than drying out and testing, they just replace any unit that they fancy. Talking to a mechanic about my comfort seats that do not blow up,his only comment was, well you know more than me, hardly a inspiring remark when you need help.
