As some may know, I currently drive an E55 that I am now selling due to changes within my company.

They have indicated that I must get a lease car (instead of owning it outright like the E55) and have given me reasonable free hands to get what I want.....

My wife's (and collegue) A class is up for replacement too....

Anyway, without being silly of course, I am torn between the new E Class, which I quite like the look of (have already seen it at a dealer in Cologne) and the ML, which I like because of its butch looks and great space.

I have not been able to get any lease figures of the new E class yet, but certainly the ML and A class.

As follows:
ML320 Cdi Sport (options)
Obsidian Black
Bi-Xenon
Harman/Kardon
Comand
Phone Pre-Wire
Memory Package
Heated Steering Wheel (always freeze in Winter)
Media Interface

Possibly also with the Brabus D6 pack.

Lease cost: £573.79 in a 35+3 deal + vat (half). 10K mls.

Good or bad??

Being silly, I also asked for a quote on the ML420 Cdi Sport, same options....

Lease cost: £840.75 in a 35+3 deal + vat (half) 10K mls.

Good or bad?

As for wife's A class, she currently have an A180 Cdi which has proven to be a great little car, well, not so small actually with a capacity of 2000 litres baggage. Anyway, due to her only doing some 8500 miles since she got it 2 years ago, we are going to limit her mileage to 5000 to keep costs down and have been quoted for a A170 Avantagarde SE instead with these options:

Bi-Xenon
Metallic Paint (Cosmos Black)
Autotronic
APS50 Navigation
Heated Front Seats
Parktronic
Easy-Vario Plus System
Telephone Pre-Wire
STorage Pack

Lease costs: £288.37 in a 35+3 deal + vat (half). 5K mls.

Does anyone know how these rates stand?

I have done several searches online and no-one can even get close to these rates with the options we/I want.

MB have quoted my already and once the local Business Manager got hold of these details, the rates have already been lowered by over £100 a month on all 3 models. Not bad for even trying....

However, wife loves the look of the new Volvo S40. But due to the fact that she wants and Automatic, we are limited to either a T5 or a 2.0D with the new Volvo/Ford DSG-style gearbox. Fine so far, have had a quote from local Volvo for a S40 2.0D auto R-Design (looks great) with some options at £399 in a 35+3 deal + vat and 10K mls per year.

I can not believe that MB is cheaper..... I mean normally one would always pay for the STAR at the front!!

Advise pls....

Thanks.

I don't think the ML420cdi deal is that good, the extra 2 clyinders aren't worth £300 extra p/m. I would have hoped the ML320cdi was nearer the £500/m mark but I know nothing of leasing, just that a fella on the other side has a GL320cdi for £468/m on a PCP (there are reasons why his is so cheap however but I don't want to divulge the fellas personal business).

The 212 is a very new car, and you won't see good lease deals on it, as everyone will want one. Its also a very early model so its more likely to have bugs that won't be there once the 212 has been made for a few years. What about a lease on a 211 E500, E63 AMG even?

Thanks. I agree, the extra £300 a month for the 420 over the 320 is steep. Have not negotiated those rates yet, but should be able to bring it down.

I also think you are right about the new W212.

The lease cost on a E63 is really steep (same with E500) as you pay for the depreciation.

A PCP may not work for me as this is for the company.

I only suggested the E63/E500 as you are really going to miss that car you've got. If the rates are too high. I guess you are paying company car tax too :(

Would a E280cdi or E320cdi estate be more suitable. Nicer fit and finish than an ML (which uses these awful plastics that are in the 204), and faster, cheaper to fuel and just as practical. You will miss the AMG power though.

Perhaps a lease on a S320cdi would be good, real luxury there but guess the lease/tax may be high (but better than a ML420cdi)

Yes, I am paying an awful amount of company car tax on the E55. Yearly tax is really low at only £210.

As for the "old" E class I think I have had my try and want to go for something different. The 320 Cdi engine is the same i had in my C320 Cdi and while the engine was great, I just don't do the mileage anymore.

But in an ML I would never go for a petrol as the car is too big and heavy to move without a diesel engine.

An ML500 would be a rapid beast, and even a 350 faster than average.

Have a look at S Classes 221's. They are a cut above everything and the added luxury will compensate for the lack of shove relative to the E55.

The MB is cheaper because on lease hire you pay the car's depreciation. The lower the depreciation, the less you pay.

Which is why I'm looking at MBs ;-)

Are these prices quoted from MB? If not go to your nearest dealer, they are going bonkers on offers at the mo'. For example:

On the Road Price £43353
Deposit £6599
Monthly Payment** £419

Yes, I have seen/been offered this already. No good as they are stock cars only and none of them have the options I want.
