Hi,

Do you by any chance know whether it is ok to get leather fitted over the cloth by mercedes? Im just wondering thet they might do a shoddy job becuase i think they use some next company to do it?

Has anybody had this done by Mercedes and have they had any problems with it. They have the car I want but its got Cloth interior, they have offered to replace it with leather, im just a bit afriad that the leather starts coming out all over the place after a while!

thanks,
Sukhy

LEATHER! HELP!

The leather should not normally be fitted over the cloth. A proper uphostery job invloves dismantling the seats and there are usually a number of places where the top leather cover is fixed through the foam with internal stitches to give the seat its shape. (The door panels will probably also require covering.)

Ask them to show you one or two example of others they have done or ask for where they plan to send the car for the work so that you can visit the place.

There are many companies offering this service for between £1,000 and £1,500, depending on style, type and extent of leather. So you could get it done yourself after buying the car and when you've had time to investigate the options and prices.

LEATHER! HELP!

Yes Arnie, youre right. They have to rip out the seats and the do the doors too. I may just ask them for some examples. One mercedes salesman is telling me they send it to mercedes another is telling me that they send it to some mickey mouse company.

It s funny because the person who has the cloth interior is saying it goes to mercedes while someone who has a leather factory fitted car, (but a spec which has too many option for my budget) is saying that it gets sent to some non-mercedes outfit and that the leather starts to come out of place after a while.

Thanks for your help.

LEATHER! HELP!

Hi

It won't go to MB because MB would just supply complete replacement leather seat covers. Then the dealer would just fit them. Or it would be sent to a specialist upholsterer who could depending on the company do just as good job as if it came out of the factory.

Regards

LEATHER! HELP!

Yes, it definately won't be done by Mercedes. as Andy says, MB may just supply the replacement leather covers, which will then need to be expertly fitted. There are other companies which provide leather interiors from their own patterns (which I had mentioned) and you may wish to find out exactly what is being offered to you.

MB will also only supply complete door panels and that would be v. expensive. Most trimmers will cut out the existing inset and just replace that part of the panel, but again it would not be with Genuine MB leather. This, however, should not be a concern, as MB leather is nothing special, although it is of a good standard and a safe bet. Some trimmers will be able to offer you Connolly leather, if you wanted...
