The side seat bolster on the drivers seat of my 190 has worn through (surprise surprise).

Anyone know of a leather company that can repair it? The rest of the interior is excellent. Why don't car companies (not just MB) make the side bolsters thicker?

You know, I have a theory on this. My '93 W124 side bolster is perfect - 172k on the car. My last W124, which was the same age when I bought it, was worn through at 120k.
Why? What's the difference? I think it's to do with owners who wear jeans. The back pocket studs catch threads. I don't wear them myself, I just don't find them comfortable.

Of course I could be completely wrong, and Jeremy Clarkson will come along saying he has done 200k in a W124 without wearing the seat through ;-)

Not Jeremy but me! My 500E has ~222k mls on the clock and the seats are PERFECT. Alright, they are particularly hard german leather and made by Recaro but all the stitching is out of sight and yes I do wear jeans. Whats more I hang a set of keys on the belt loops of my trousers and have ripped the loops on various occasions when the keys have snagged on the seat bolster as I get in. The leather survives the trousers don't.

AMPSTAR. If you live in North Essex there is a good guy in Colchester. Go down East Hill. There is a turning to the right;very narrow lane.Down the end on the right there is a workshop owned by the son of `Jim the Trim.` He is famous in the the trade & will fix you up.

Cheers guys-only 15 minutes from my house too.

And a good looking website they have too. Just sent off an e-mail to them for a quote to repair the holed bolster (stitching is still 100% perfect).

I'll keep you all posted as to what they say/quote.

Seems a long time ago I posted this, and due to work commitments, only just hooked up with paul at Trim-Star.

Came ou and inspected the car-not only is the seat repair easy to do, but he can also fix both the passenger side door cards where they are peeling at the top.

He insisted that "it won't cost much" to do. All booked in for mid August.

pulley noise all sorted, seats and door cards all booked-now I just need to sort out the air-con cable, and get the rear passenger door to open (still not really tried to do that yet).
