None of them do, most go back to using standard H7 but something like the Osram Lazer range for a better output, there are some with a whiter light too if that’s what you’re looking for

Yet another thread about putting LED headlight bulbs into a headlight designed for incandescent bulbs, pass the beer, popcorn and groans! The reflectors in a headlight designed for incandescents are not suitable for LED's as the light distribution from an LED is totally different, it also leads to an immediate MoT fail if the tester notices, let alone annoyance from every other road user. Search on here and you'll find why such idiocy can lead to MoT failure and lack of insurance cover!!

TL;DR: it's illegal to replace non-LED headlight bulbs with LED. Just as it is illegal to replace halogen with bi-xenon HIDs or whatever (the latter needs levelling information from the suspension and headlight washing, which the former do not, amongst other things).

And it's like that for a reason.

There's no real need to uprate headlights these days, plenty of free light available to see where you are going from the overly bright LED units with no discernible left hand dip fitted to most new cars. Even available in bright daylight to help you on your way.

If your 211 is anything like the 219 then, MB have a major design issue, fvck all works to the extent I turned the lights off on unlit country lanes and used the tree lines! Seriously dangerous and never driven a car as bad! Even 25yr + stuff on halogens works awesome even today!

Don’t bother with LEDs they are better but, seriously a total headache due to the electronics and current shizzle. If a good quality HiD kit works then get that or, source a used genuine xenon set and retrofit those.

Don’t bother with brighter halogen bulbs, they won’t make a difference in these crap MB lamps. Fvck knows how MB got this shite approved.

You never drove a 6 volt VW Beatle on tungsten bulbs!

I have to disagree, I've had my 2008 S204 for 12 years now, the original bulbs were crap so I changed to Osram Nightbreakers, and over the years have tried originals, NB+, and now have NB Lasers in dip and main, admittedly I seldom drive at night but do have dips on with ignition, and am quite happy with those bulbs. Also as they are incandescents in housings designed for incandescents, I do not have to worry about failing an MoT or nullifying my insurance by having something different and possibly illegal on the front of the car!

Nope! But I doubt it will drive me to switch the lights off at 2am between Warwickshire and Nottingham! First time driving it in the dark I had to get out and check the bulbs hadn’t blown!

1995 Supra on halogens - brilliant
2000 Volvo 70 series on halogens - very decent so long as reflectors are good.
2013 Astra GTC on halogens - nowt wrong that!
219 Merc on halogen - boardroom back handers!

Great if they worked for you but I tried half a dozen Philips and Osram variants before going through a ball ache with LEDs. Had I known the ball ache it was going to be I’d have just grabbed a set of used xenon’s to retrofit.

With a dynamo too! I rode quite a few 6 volt motorcycles in my youth and the lighting was dire. I did experiment with additional spotlights but the generators were not up to job of the extra load.
Best I did was a Ring rectanguar spotlight on top of the headlamp of a DT175MX wired in place of main beam with a 6V 55W halogen bulb, a big improvement. I tried both the fog lamp and spotlight versions eventually ending up experimenting with shifting the focal length to alter the beam pattern.
Next bike after that was 12 volt with a 55/60W halogen and a decent alternator, a 55/100W bulb was an improvement and I continued doing similar with cars to have standard low beam and higher power main beam/spotlamps.
I find my S211 Xenon headlamps acceptable with matching replacement bulbs, I would like to try higher wattage inner main beam bulbs to see if there is any improvement in penetration.
If my trip to work was longer on the dark lanes, a pair of Cibie Super Oscars for winter would be nice!

I have the same on Monday Pit, headlights are no brighter than the side lights on the 55
I have polished the lenses on Money Pit, to no avail, though we have noticed the centre projectors inside the headlights are very dark indeed. This maybe the cause of such poor dipped beams
