The last couple of months has proved a bit expensive as various work has been required on my E200 W210 96 estate with 240,000 miles on it. I could not help but wonder about the life expectancy of various parts when used on a well maintained car. Mine is looked after by Bursledon Motors at Durley, Hampshire who I am very impressed with (please excuse the plug but I feel they deserve it). I have only had the car a couple of years and do not know if the parts I have had replaced are original or already replacements but to give you some idea what I am on about, in the last two months I have had to replace the following:
Air mass unit
Water pump
Rear Bushes
Forward Cat
Battery
And since owning the car I have had the following replaced:
AC compressor
AC condenser
Prop coupling
Front ball joints
Front pads
I dont do a massive amount of miles, only about 15,000 since buying the car and the question regularly arises as to when it would be time to change. Not for a while yet as it would be uneconomical and with the money spent on it the car should be alright for a while yet.
Does anyone know if there is a source of information on how long various parts can be expected to last which would be a great help when the next round of servicing/expense comes along in making the change/keep decision.
I have posted in the general forum as this post in not really specific to any technical forum.
