Lights on, Lose Power??

Have a 1998 E210 300TD. Put the sides on this morning and the car lost power. Picked up again after I took the foot off the pedal and re-pressed. Is this a safety feature or a fault?? Any suggestions (clean) welcomed.

Thats unheard of by me, thats only just a few watts, or should I say 4 amps in total
