Hi all this is what happened on the ML a week ago,

On my 2003 ML the following lights have illuminated on the dash. They are as follows:

BAS/ ESP
ETS
ABS
EPC

I have read the manual and it says for the BAS/ ESP the on board voltage is less than 10 volts.

ETS to prevent the brakes overheating.

ABS due to a voltage below 10 volts.

EPC due to a malfunction in the diesel-engine electronics.

Or they could have all failed.

I did travel 200 miles north yesterday and back, however no lights were on the dash.

I am wondering if water has frozen on some of the electronics or could the battery have nearly had it?

Also I am thinking of waiting for the temperature to rise in case it could be the frozen water.

Will the faults have to be corrected via star diagnostics or will they sort themselves out if it is frozen water?

The lights disappeared...

Yesterday the following happened:

The lights are back!!!

I have also noticed the wing mirrors no longer fold.

Got back in the car the other lights were on except the EPC. Then the wing mirrors closed and opened. Started 2 drive, I heard a shredding noise and the wheels felt odd; it felt like a power failure was going to happen.

I stopped and then started again, after turning onto the next road the noise and feeling came again. Although this time the Yellow Warning Triangle illuminated in the dash.

Also the EPC light is back on.

I have read my manual and it says with regards to the Yellow Warning Triangle:

4-ETS/ ESP is activated becuase one of the drive wheels has reached its tyre grip limit.

ESP is deactivated. There is an increased risk of accident.

Any ideas what is wrong with the car? Could it be the alternator/ belt? Where is this located on the ML?

Is the car safe?

My ML 270 has done the same.
On my car it turned out to be a wheel sensor and a bad connection between the rear n/s sensor and the pump.
I had a new sensor fitted and this has 99.9% cured the problem.
I found that if I did the following it put all the lights out, and the only time they sometimes came back on was when I braked to a stop at a junction.
Sometimes when I then drove for 100 yards or so they all went out themselves as the sustem seemed to self check and decided there was no fault.

Try the following when the lights are showing.
Drive on level or slight downhill slope at about 15 mph, put the gear selector to N, switch off the ignition and wait 2 to 3 secs and re start the engine whilst still rolling between 10 to 15 mph all the lights should now have gone out and then select D let the car slow down to 5 to 10 mph and then feed in a little throttle.
This for some reason seems to allow the electronice see that all is ok.
By the way my car has only done the light thing once after the new wheel sensor was fitted when I braked in a car park but the lights went out after a few seconds.
There are far to many electronic fingers in the pie for my liking.

Regards.

Mike

Cheers Mike I will try this later today.

By the way I have not had any work carried out on this car yet. Could this fault also prevent the wing mirrors not folding? Furthermore I have noticed that the seat belt light in the dash does not come on now.

I have a 2001 ML270 CDI with a number of problems,

1) The BAS/ESP light that has come on, some times it goes off after starting but will then come on again while driving.

2) The drivers side window winds down normally when selected. But when I select for the window to wind up, it fails to. (Icannot hear the motor engage when selected)

3) My automatic locking has also stopped working. (I have been told that I need to replace the 'all activities module')

Any ideas?

Hi windows will be the switch it self remove whole unit
strip it down a bend the contacts on all the window switches
as you don't want to be doing it again there are instructions
on this forum somewhere.

3) My automatic locking has also stopped working. Yeah mine has:D

1) The BAS/ESP light that has come on. This could be an easy fix
but cost you a lot of money, swap some relays over let the fault develop
our whom can you trust not to rip you off.

ML270CDI 2002
ABS ETS BAS Lights

Hi

I have a ML270CDI 2002, my dashboard warning lights are on. It started a few months ago.
I have had faults read at Indie merc (STAR)
He checked the wiring where it goes into ABS unit underneath washer bottle- all okay.
Advised me to replace Left rear sensor-Done
Had car back on STAR at main dealer £84, lots of stored faults. Most relevant ones according to Tech was
Left rear speed sensor C1102-Open circuit in wiring (I had replaced a bit of damaged wiring in that area) may need to do it again/better
Right rear speed sensor C1103
and C1401High pressure and return pump.
I have taken 2 days off holiday to try and sort this out!

Yesterday I switch and renewed K25 relay.
Jumped K25 slot and had ABS pump running.
Battery good 12.5 volts 14.5 when engine running.
Took connector off to ABS unit and checked for voltage at pin 15 11.66V is this normal??
Today
Replaced Right rear speed sensor- Now the car is undrivable audible brake and warning light come on.
Auto box not working, stays in first gear.
Disconnected battery for 40 minutes-did not work.
Turned engine off on quiet road and restarted on the move, worked for a few minutes.
Have now disconnected the new Right sensor-Audible and visual warning still on, car will not change gear and is now totally unuseable.

Can any one out there help me please.

TIA

Mark

Hi Mark,

Apologies for not seeing your post. Did you use genuine Mercedes parts and there are very good known indies on the forum whom would sort this.

Is it all working now?
