Hi all.
The limp mode saga continues.......I have had the car for just over 12 months now and have had nothing but trouble since I got it. It has had numerous parts replaced on the secondary air induction side but the only one to have any long term effect was an egr valve that was fitted 5 months ago and has lasted for that amount of time. I took it into an independant specialist who took the egr valve off and cleaned it. That lasted for a week! I agreed to have a new mas (£275.00 + Vat!) and that lasted a day before it went into limp mode again. Now they want me to put a new egr valve on at huge cost (£400+). I am getting to the end of my tether!! Does anyone have any more ideas as to what it could be?

Regards

Andrew

What a bad buy, the seller making you do all these repairs due to poor maintenance.

Didn't you inspect it carefully before you buy, look for maintenance records or you just part your money just because it a Merc.

Hi Malcolm

The engine management light usually takes about 24 hours before it comes on. I am thinking of finding a way to bypass the limp mode. Not ideal but considering just about all the secondary air induction parts have been replaced then I think I will take the chance. As usual, any advice will be appreciated.

Regards,

Andrew

You could remove the EGR valve and blank it off,, cleaning it seldom works, as the spring gets weak.

I am think of the conductor plate in the gearbox, not expensive,, see what some other guys feel about this

Andrew have you had the battery checked, a dry or high resistance cell can play havoc with the electrical system.

Hi Extractorfan
Will have the battery checked tomorrow thanks for the advice.
Malcome
That sounds like a good idea......what about modifying the spring or is it a bugger of a job? I have access to a very well equipped workshop.

Thanks for the replies.

Take it off and weld it up, then put it back,, it serves no useful purpose other than emission that cant be checked. Many have done this

There are two, one beside the fuel distributor and the other behind the engine near the bulkhead. Ask a Merc dealer if you are not sure.
