I've just had a Pioneer stereo installed in my wife's coupe.

The guys who did the installation told me that there was no switched live available and so they have wired it to the permanent live. They stressed that as long as the stereo is switched off or the front panel removed when the engine is switched off there will be no problems with draining the battery.

I'm not sure whether to believe this. The previous stereo (Becker) would have used a switched live wouldn't it?

Can anyone help me on this.

Cheers

Yes you are correct The radio should only work when you switch ignition to first position. The permanent live is for memory only.REMOVE UNIT AND CHECK WIRES .This job could have been done in minutes with an adaptor cable at cost approx £8 from any accessory shop.

I've spoke to the installers this morning.

They claim that the Becker doesn't have a switched live and thats why they used the permanent live.

I been googling to find out if this is true because I'm fairly sure that the Becker switched itself off when the ignition was switched off.

Whilst googling I found that sometimes, the permanent live and switched live (yellow and red) are sometimes reversed though I didn't find a particular reference to Mercedes for this.

Can anyone confirm or deny (or point me to a wiring diagram) whether the Becker has a switched live connection.

Cheers
Simon
