Any explosive placed in 124 should be relativly harmless,I would have thought

I sat watching it for quite a while on Sky as the news came in and couldn't help thinking what a classically good shape it is. It has a wonderful timeless quality. Surprising how few Merc designs look dated.

I have two daughters living and working up there so this whole business is pretty scary. But the image of the car sticks in the mind. A work of art, I suppose.

How stoic are we Brits? Years of the IRA have taught us and we carry on, more vigilant, as before.

I was very annoyed at the fact they used a W124, surely a similar age BMW would have been more appropriate! Plus, it was quite a good un, no rust on the arches and the alloy wheels too...

So, whats the chance that from now on all drivers of older Mercs will be seen as potential bomb threats??

I think they gave their ethnic identity away by using Mercedes.

And now another one !! The Park Lane one was a 280E according to the BBC; thats a W124 innit ?

Odd that the gravity of the situation didn't stop us looking at the cars though.

Yes and what about that brave copper who dived into the Merc to pull out the mobile phone that was to trigger the bomb. And he knew what it was.

He deserves a medal.

I agree. Amazing, too, how many bomb plots they have thwarted so far. Hope they keep it up.
So easy to blow people up; so hard to stop it happening.

I just hope that the bombers weren't a couple of disgruntled Merc owners who were waiting for MobiloLife technicians to arrive.

Hi Shadowninja,

After years of laying praise at MB's doorstep, I had them hit me with a cricket bat, only 21k on our beloverd 2001 SLK went in for the brake warning light (pads we thought?) and came out £1500 lighter in the pocket ? for parts that should surely have been under warranty or a recall. Anyway my point is, although I will keep this car for some time yet, I don't think I would buy another new MB. I had heard the probs were from the ones assembled in South Africa? ours was from Bremen, so what happened between 1999-2003 and are you saying post 2003 cars are ok? I may need a 2nd car soon and if so planned to get an older SL or an early 90's E series coupe or ragtop, I love the really old 4 seater stacked headlight convertibles but a. I am a little ignorant of the model nos. and b: I suspect that will be expensive? are they as reliable as I suspect?
sorry if this is too many questions...

What parts did you need and what was the breakdown of the £1500 bill?
