Hi

I've just joined the forum to hopefully acquire some wisdom in W124s.

I'm after an estate so I guess it should be a S124.

My parents have had Mercs since I was a kid, my Dad's current ML being the worst regarding faults. My Mum's 1993 190 2.5D is still going strong however.

I am looking for an econimal estate, but there don't seem to be many diesels around, so my next choice is small petrol version, but many for sale are automatic, does this harm economy. What mpg will a 230 auto do?

Also, is high mileage a worry? I accept the fact I am looking at 100,000+ mile cars, but should I stay away from 200,000 mile stuff?

Regards

Martin

I can get 25 mpg or better

on a run from our 300te. 18-22 in town. It's for sale, and won't cost the earth as I've already fixed most of what can go wrong with it.
Search the spares for sale section for lived-in workhorse.

Thanks Myros, I'd be seriously tempted to chance the fuel bills on a 3 litre knowing all the work you've done on your car for the price you are offering it for.

I have to sell my Jeep first though :(

If you do get shot of the jeep

get in touch with me through the forum here. Given the lack of interest in the car generally so far, it'll probably still be available.

I have a feeling people just don't buy cars from private sellers at the moment.

I couldn't shift my last car a couple of years ago (Octavia) via ebay or AutoTrader at all, it eventually sold via a Skoda forum.

My Jeep is still advertised and I've reduced it, only time wasters, no one has come to view it.

I know the feeling

I e-bayed the old bus in november, and not a single sniff. To be fair, a few of the members here were interested, but it was too far for them to come and inspect. I was lucky in that i bought it from a chap in the next town.
The only thing I've not tackled are the bottom ball joints at the front. They could probably do with replacing to get that silence back over the bumps, but economics tell me not to do it until absolutely necessary. Not even a mention at MOT so I left them alone.
Good luck with the jeep.
