Hi Penelope

The German Flower Pot beat me to being your first respondent.

''... a Mercedes... ' does beg questions like: model, age, etc. Also usage; light duties or tyre-burning chases?

I take it you are not looking to make a detective series based in Oxford?

Is the white Mercedes incidental or the star of the film? For example, Ian Olgilvy's portrayed Simon Templer, he drove a white XJS. Roger Moore, in the same part, drove a white Volvo P1800. That P1800 became almost as famous as the star.

Astounding that the DOP gets placed in 'other crew'. Let me guess, there would be no payment for anybody allowing their car to be used in your film?

Hi Penelope

Just had a look at your website. Why are you interested in a Mercedes as opposed to some other make?

Where is she? I do hate people who post and then disappear. Hello?

The Silver Mercedes is more apt these days and nearly all cars are metallic. Though white is making a comebck, all of a sudden.

This film is based on a book called 'The White Mercedes', which is why they want a white Mercedes. I enquired about this, and all I know is that they don't want a white E-Class coupe  I did ask what model they wanted, as well as what they wanted to do with it, and what arrangements theyd make regarding costs etc.

All I got in responce was 'We're looking for a different model'. But thats not all that helpful really lol

The White Mercedes
(1992)
A novel by
Philip Pullman

After a single sexual encounter, Chris Marshall falls madly in love with Jenny, a young woman he does not know. Wandering the streets, never coming face to face, each becomes involved with Barry Miller, a small time crook with Edward Carson, a convicted murderer, on his trail. These four spiral around each other until the savage climax when Jenny is gunned down in a case of mistaken identity.

Secondhand copies of this book, now out of print, go for as little as $1 for a badly dog-chewed paperback up to $200 or more for a signed hardback in good nick.

Reward for anyone who can find out what model Mercedes was in the book, is a brand new uploaded photo of a white C class. Gosh!

Hi MikeCoupe

Still not sure what part the Mercedes plays in the book. However, after reading about this tragic love story (Romeo & Juliette with wheels), it's not really my cup of tea. The Mercedes appears to be incidental to the main plot, much like another film I recall involving a car, The Yellow Rolls Royce.

'... looking for a different model ...'. To what, I wonder? It would help to know in what year the story is set. Maybe they are after a vintage Mercedes.

I would like to know whether this is to be a professionally made film, in which case one lucky member with a white Mercedes stands to make a few bob.

The Butterfly Tattoo (Macmillan, 2001)
By Philip Pullman who says of his book: -

"The Butterfly Tattoo is a tragedy. I wanted to write a love story in which believable characters in a modern setting could encounter love and death in a realistic way. I also wanted to write about Oxford, the city where I live, and to get away from the sort of heritage-university-beautiful architecture idea and talk about a present-day, messy, difficult world in which unemployment and housing problems are real urgent matters. This book was originally published in 1992 as The White Mercedes"

Hi hawke20

Definitely NOT my type of book! I have trouble enough dealing with real life and don't care to read about the troubles other people get themselves into. It sounds like the type of book with an unhappy ending and is perhaps too close to reality to be enjoyable. Give me a good detective mystery any day.

Yes, the white Mercedes would seem to be an incidental object in this tragic tale.

Thank for the synopsis, hawke20. I take it you researched the details of this book for this thread but have not read it?

WOW! Hello people, I have not been following the forum, just been answering email replies.

What I'm looking for is, roughly, a 220 series S class in silver. I say roughly because we are basically looking for any sort new style mercedes in silver.

It would be best if the home of the car is reasonably near to Oxford, just so the driver doesn't have to commute too far, but I guess that is also dependent on the owner.

We would be needing the car on these dates; 30th August, 11th, 12th, 19th and 26th September. The 19th and the 26th are night shoots, we will arrange full comprehensive insurance for the car and personal expenses will be covered.

The movement of the vehicle is all very light, there are no crazy tricks involved or any stunts....it just involves simple driving.

Please let me know asap, as we are looking for a car immediately, considering the first shoot is on the 30th August.

All the best!
