Hello fellow members.

I am currently looking for the ideal SLK for my girlfriend. She drives alot of miles a year for work so something economic would be ideal. She is looking to spend up to £20K, up to 20K miles and an air scarf is a must.

How come there are so many silver coloured ones out there, hence why she wants it in blue or black.

What i need to know is what to expect to change unexpectedly or go wrong after so many miles and also what good gadgets i need to look out for.

All your coments are welcome.

Cheers

Baz

Hello Baz and welcome, you should get a few answers, we have a female member who has just bought a yellow one, and she loves it.

Hi Baz and welcome, mine is probably a bit older than what you are looking for but it is still an awesome car and as above I love it!
Mine hasn't got the airscarf but to be honest it is warm and snug without it :D

The OP is looking for a R171. A 200k would be the most frugal one with fuel + maintence (4 cylinders rather than 6 in the 280 and 350). They don't do a diesel (yet). Plenty should have airscarf. The OP should look for leather seats an automatic gears ideally. The rest is nice but not neccessary.

my SLK came with the air scarf and to be honest I wouldn't have paid for it if I had ordered the car new, its OK but not brilliant. Just turning the heater up does just a good job.

2001 SLK 200
Hi everybody, I'm totally new to Mercedes, but I/we have decided that my mid life crisis needs some exitement in it! to satisfy this we are going to buy a second hand 200SLK, we have seen the one that represents the best value for money regards age/milage and equipment and have settled on a 2001 two owner model. I have given it a test drive and found it to be faultless for the money (£6000) I am due to pick it up on Saturday complete with new MOT, my problem arises from asking my local garage what if anything I should look out for, and to my horror :shock:he told me that SLK's of that age rusted really badly behind and under the plastic covers and also in the boot where the roof folds into. when i went to see the car the last thing that I was looking for on a 2001 Mercedes was rust and as such never even looked underneath. Am I being wound up about this or is there really a serious problem with this age of car.
Any and all advice very much appreciated especially before Saturday when I am due to collect it.
Cheers
Steve

New slk is a nice car without the rust problems of the old model however i cant stand the halfords arial the new model sports sticking out from the rear wing when the old model had it intergrated, a step backwards in my opinion.
