i am think on buying a Mercedes C250 TD Elegance 4dr Auto on a v plate 13000 miles on her i can have the car at £2500 i never had a Mercedes before .is this a good price.what are the bad points to look out for on this car .and what are the runing costs like . And it as a tow bar fitted many thanks david

I take it that the mileage is 130,000 not 13,000.
Is that from a dealer? Has it history? MB or Independant?
Main thing to look for is rust.
Regarding running costs other members with the same engine would be better qualified to comment

I've got the same model ie W202 C250TD Sport on an R plate Auto. No real problems just wear and tear really. Although I've got some rust on the bottom door panels.
As your's is a V plate even if there is rust due to age I believe this will be covered by Merc under their 30 year warranty. I believe this became effective from August/September of 1998. Typical mine was registered 01/04/98.
Running costs on a combined drive I get 36 mpg more on a motorway and this is brim to brim.

1.New battery end of 2007. Not bad as it was still the original old battery
2. New condensor as this leaked due to age hence gas ran out
3. Tyres as you would expect
4. Brake pads
5. Fuel lines
Mine's got 136,000 on clock

Make sure you get a 12 month MOT from the dealer .This will cover you for the cat and many other things for the next 12 months . Cheers Ron

today i had a good look at the car and some things wrong with the car

1 air bag light on
2 the air fan in the car not working
3 o/s/f coil spring broken
4 oil leaking from the sensor by the sump pug
5 to rear tyres on 2mm


they are going to put a new spring and new sensor &new mot and thats it

any boby have any idea why the fan in the car not working ive checked the fuses

i had, air bag warning/fan motor not working,caused by floor flooding,due to drainage hole blockage,had to replace side air bag sensor(under passenger seat ) the fan rectified itself upon drying out.are your passengers carpets wet ?

Normal problem when the heater fan packs up is brushes or speed regulator, when you change it replace the pollen filter as this has to be removed to access the fan motor.
With regard to the airbag as you are buying from a dealer I would try and get them to do it as this is a safety system and effectively they are selling a car with a fundamental safety system inoperative but as coopz says 9/10 the problem will be a faulty seat recognition pad but after replacment the light will still need to be cleared via computer. I would get the codes read before replacement as it will isolate the fault.
Also ensure that the front spring is a gen. MB item and if they are only replacing one of them (should be replaced as pairs) ensure the ride height is the same both sides.

Front spring breakage is not uncommon. I was going to post this info but saw you'd found it already. On the bright side, it could be why the car's been traded.
