lost 1st and reverse

here is to hoping someone may be able to help. got home from work today and my 2013 220cdi manual estate would not engage reverse. tried all other gears and it also will not go into second. all other gears look ok. i have had car 8 months with no issues. a 10000 mile warranty ran out 486miles ago :(:(
i have not seen any signs of leaks or strange noises etc

Have the gearbox oil level checked.

I'd have a look at the linkage. If 1st and reverse are on the same end of the linkage something may be lose.

Does it make any difference if the gearbox is in S or C modes?

No external linkage as such, one link only for all gears, it'll be internal inside the box, selector drum/fork fault.

So apparently it’s a common known issue with this gearbox. 2013/14 was the last year it was used due to this issue. The spring for reverse is too strong and the force to overcome it and select reverse is enough to bend the gates on second. There is a retrofit ‘fix kit’.
It was in the garage two days and cost me £960 including vat. Ouch. But what can you do. All sorted now
