A class 250 2019
I ran new S class 500 for 8 months with 22 inch wheels and low profile 30 and 35 tyres. Pirelli Zero MB fit new. I had 5 punctures 3 4 being pot holes bursting the tyre. The car was so heavy it was too much for the tyres and fed up with this I got a range rover. I still drive our a class with normal size tyres. I want an eqs but they all come with silly low profile tyres so I know I will be stranded time and time again. My Range Rover has done 22000 mile on 21 inch wheels and no punctures. Is this me or has anyone else had this? I saw an E53 coupe punctures his tyre on a pothole on the m25 today.

Hello and welcome,

Fashion… stupid sized alloys, poorly maintained roads and driver distracted by a plethora of carp.

Agree Blobcat. Tyres out of an aerosol can no wonder have nothing but problems, very expensive tyres and don't last long.

Welcome Martin Phil 1956

As Blobcat says "Fashion… stupid sized alloys, poorly maintained roads" all contribute to tyres failures. In my SL I had two punctures & damaged wheels at same time from being forced off track by an oncoming learner driver into a pothole.

I have changed the wheels on both my SL & Land Rover to the smallest which function well. No more punctures, more comfortable ride and in the Land Rover better off-road performance.

I reckon that a standard S class would run on 18 inch rims.
Your best bet with cars that come with 22" wheels like these is either avoid purchasing them or to purchase a set of smaller diameter rims with tyres, hence larger profile, then sell the 22" ones to recoup some of the cost.

Also as a note, tyre pressure is king with low profile tyres and our roads. I always keep to the higher recommended pressure. It may give a harder ride, but helps to protect the tyres to a degree. Running lower pressures for comfort means that when you hit a pothole the tyre sidewall is more likely to be pinched between the road and the rim causing a blowout.
