I have an advisory on my recent MOT of excessive play on nearside front wheel. Mechanic says I need to replace the lower control. It turns out the lower control arm is actually in two parts, front and rear, so just replacing both.

Does anyone have a description on how to do this? Do I need special sockets or tools to do this?

Might be an idea to get a second opinion on that. The bushes would have to be COMPLETELY shot to give appreciable play due to the camber and caster arm bushes.

If they really are the cause, you can change the bushes with a special tool, or replace the arms. Not difficult and a straightforward job, but they have very tight bolts on them.

It's most likely the ball joint not the bushes.
