Hello
Im considering getting either a 123 or 124 series estate 230/280 to convert to lpg as im bored of waiting for a good diesel, 92 year would be the youngest.
Perhaps someone here has done the conversion?
I would like to know which engine is best suited and which would be the easiest to convert, im thinking the older the better, minus cats etc? may be wrong.
Any info appreciated, and if you have something for sale, tempt me!

The big problem with converting estates to LPG is where to put the tank. You can put a 60-odd litre tank where the spare wheel is but then the spare has to live in the luggage compartment. There it's unsafe as it's unrestrained & it takes up lots of room

The alternative is to put a big tank across the rear behind the back seats. There's a car like this on eBay at the moment. Nice idea - except you buy an estate for 7 seats (impossible with LPG) or for load space (er, halved with LPG) and to fold down the rear seats to carry long items (mmm, impossible with LPG)

There's an overview on my Petrol vs Diesel vs LPG page:

I would probably use a toroidial tank in the wheel well space and use a tyre sealant or hope I didnt encounter a puncture! im more concerned about the suitability of the engines mention etc and any other pitfalls.
