My aunty has asked me to have a look at her 2001 mercedes C180 sport-coupe (W203). The engine in this I believe is a 2 litre naturally aspirated.
The problem is when you start the car from cold, the idle speed violently shoots up and down between 500 and 1500. This lasts about 20 to 30 seconds and during that time it sounds as though the exhaust is blowing loudly. After the 20 seconds is up, the idle suddenly stabilises and the loud exhaust noise suddenly stops and the engine runs perfectly again.
I'm inclined to think this could perhaps be down to a faulty idle speed control valve or something similar but I'm unfamiliar with my way around this engine of hers - can anyone think of what I might need to do to fix the problem?
