My '89 300TE sits on 500 rpm at tickover when fully warmed up and in drive but the tickover is a bit lumpy.

Obviously this is not normal - does anyone have any suggestions as to a cure?

Help please

Hello,

Is it the M103 engine (3Litre SOHC) with KE jectronic system  ?

I do have some problem before with mind (I think same engine as yours) , but is just the cold start and rough idlling; I try the dealer, but they can't solve out the problem  , but finally, me and my locate garage has pin point the problem and solve it :D .

It is quite difficult to find out exactly what problem is, but if I were u  , I will try to check all the electronic injection component, by having a diagnosis test in the garage, check whether everything work properly first, and try to check the air fuel ratio and emission of it.

Anyway, it is lumpy after fully warmed up, but how about before fully warm up :?: ? As during the warm up period, the injection system will increase the idlling speed and provide extra fuel to the engine, hence, if it run like normal during the warm up period, then possibly is the engine running lean after fully warmed up, have you check the colour of your spark plug?

It seem like the problem of the fuel injection system, such as the 'Accelaration fuel enrichment', which might cause by low fuel pressure.

Hope this can help, and looking forward to your reply !!

Gary!
