So fellow friends. Today must be decision day on the C63 2016. I plan to keep my next car for 1-2 years so unfortunately boring old depreciation must be a consideration. The dealer yesterday rejected my offer of £1k less than the sticker price. But will allow me to take it for the advertised price (they have had a lot of interest). So what do we think about depreciation realistically. It is a May 2016 car with 10k miles. One owner. Full MB history. It will come with 2-4 years warranty depending how I fund it (additional warranty if I take the finance). Price is £35k. It is a standard C63 with Premium. No other options. Is it realistic to assume if I sell a year from now I may get an offer of £29k, and maybe £25k two years from now. Or am I fooling myself!?? The GMFV after two years is £20k, but have been trying to convince myself it will be worth more than that in two years.

Asking for advice, as when right in the middle of a deal it is sometimes hard to think logically!

Other option - I have been offered a 2013 C63 (w204) with 38k miles on it, for £24k. I know I will lose less on that, but just feel the new car maybe more comfortable day to day.

Could you use the 2013 as a yard stick as to the expected value in two years time of the 216 ? :) I guess nobody will really know until the time of execution

They'll "allow you" to buy it for the price they're asking...

That's an old school Mercedes dealership from the 70's/80's that is.

Used to have a C63...

Was thinking the very same, bless them!

Hard to guide you on this one chap, I'm not familiar enough with the 205 variant.

Have you taken both out for a decent drive (and representative of how you'd use it)?

To be fair the sticker price sounds reasonable, but yes questionable sales diatribe!
Depreciation is a crystal ball on these things so it’s hard to help with any sort of certainty.
My E63 dropped just over 5k in the 2 years of ownership but then someone else (I was the second owner) had taken the biggest sting.
For me, as this is personal, I’d take the most modern and generally better specced car which is the 2016, but (and this is a big BUT), if you are pondering depreciation on that level think also on day to day running costs - loads of folks get a 63 with rose tinteds, then the reality licks in when they have to run them. As mentioned previously there are lots on the market 1 year old , 2 years old low miles, partly that’s because ‘we’ have a low boredom thereshold and need a change, but there are others out there as the owners realised they couldn’t run them comfortably...
There’s also the issue that we can’t make good use of the stonking engines in this country easily...
Anyway personal choice

Sad to say (very as it goes :() but I think the time for these cars is now very limited

This is all very true. If I had an AMG I would want to drive it like it was designed to, I would be spending my budget on fuel/tyres and brakes. My 350 CDI is fun to drive, doesn't sound that great, but it's a "meet me in the middle" option. It's easy to drive sensible and means that I can afford to run it.

Thank you for all your thoughts. I guess I shouldn't rush into it, and maybe use my head a little more. Having had around 10 Mercedes and not a single one being AMG I guess I feel the need to scratch the itch. Will keep you updated.

My post wasn’t designed to put you off- just gently think the bigger picture- as Blobcat says the time for these type of cars seems to be becoming more and more limited , choice is ‘scratch the itch whilst you can or forget it’- in saying that I am glad I scratched the itch it would have been a big regret otherwise.

I just have a mortgage and the usual bills, plus we like our holidays too much. It's a balancing act, and even though I would like a C63, I know long term that I would get used to the power, and then I would miss other things in life too much.

I agree, Tupperware Duracells seem to be the ‘sensible’ choice now
There’s always someone willing to push the envelope - Icarus springs to mind....

Although I don’t believe electrickery in its current guise is the future either. Another cut-de-sac which we'll look back on with a quizzical expression of how quaint we were.

Right now in the U.K. you’re much better off with an E220d than an E63 which is quite sad really. Nowhere can you use the extra the 63 has.

Having said all that if I could I’d have a GT2 RS right now and use it as a daily driver.

Yes Andy, my wife keeps bleating on about holidays too! Due to some Brexit related issues dividends were a no in 2018 so now she is having to consider our impending ‘normal’ holiday but at the same time saying ‘if it wasn’t for the car you bought etc etc...” I’m sure you’ve heard it before
