MAF sensor ??/ - Help

Hi, I need yr help please, c180 yr - 2000 (last of old Model) enginE W202
Car is 9 yr old ,only 71000 mils and not driven hard,Drove from Ireland to Swiss in the summer- No problem, Recently noticed lacking power,cut out a few times and if crusing say 70, would pause and then be ok again,
Local mechanic, pluged in the car to diag.computer and showed recurring error,advised though not showing it directly to replace mass air flow sensor as supected this was sending wrong info up the line, Replaced insert with new one - not Merc. as these are about 600 euro's in Ireland and told this would be OK. Seemed fine at first, much livelier at low rev and pulling better,
few days later, notced when in Netural the rev's would die, and then just catch again ideling at 750 - bit rough sometimes, and then again to today while driving into drive engin died instead of holding idle.
Got diag comp. check again and same error showing..something to do with Band 1 mixture if I remember correctly...Any help or ideas would be much appreciated

Hi Stuart,, these MAF cost £147 from Bosch service centers and easy to fit. It does sound very much like yours is past its sell by date

Air flow meters.

Hi Stuart. I have a c200 s reg with the same problem and mercedes quoted me £258 for a Bosch air flow sensor like you, As I am reluctant to spend too much if poss; I searched around and found a company that sells brand new Bosch air flow sensors with the corect part number marked on them ,it's not a pattern part and the price is only £32 post paid !! you may have to wait a few days for delivery , but what the heck ! their name is "The air flow meter company" and they are based in Hampshire. hope this info is not too late, good luck.

hi everyone, just had a terrible week, engine power and autobox performance all over the place, like having water in the fuel, jerking and surging, local diag, was autobox limp home, at 190k miles i felt i must order new box.from one the the postings somone said, disconnect the MAF and see what happens ? fantastic everything returns to near normal, esp, the autobox. cost of MAF at ciseley main dealer in preston, £250. so contacted dronsfields at oldham, £65. they fitted the MAF today but it did not resolve the problem, they say need to look further into the electrics, also they feel car is generally down on power.taking back after xmas. they fed me and watered me and i canc, the new box, i am conf. they will resolve problem. i met melvin dronsfield, good guy, he said the merc. autoboxes are good for 300k if serviced every 40k miles. herbiemercman.

If you unplugged the MAF and it runs OK or better then the MAF they fitted must have been an old one or something

E300 Td. Maf Prob. Not Autobox.

hi malcolm, thankyou for the aft. mkt. supply. for MAF, one states 3 yr. guar. @ £35. the other states original bosche etc. £65. which would you go for ? also how can i tell which type dronsfields fitted, the one that did not work, unles as they say may be somthing else which relates to the MAF. time will tell, i want them to try a MAF from one of their cars. ian. Hi Ian,, I am going to contact the one in the link, as I need a MAF for my V70R as its been unplugged for this last 6 months, so time that I fixed it. I will post back in a few days
