MAF sensor readings

Hi all

I've got a e220cdi 2003 w211.

I had an interesting session at MB recently where I was present while the technicians had my car running on their computer diagnostics. I wanted them to do a MAF test and a EGR valve test. My MAF was reading too high (out of acceptable range) when the car was on idle (my car has a noisy idle - diesel knock), but as soon as you press the accelerator the readings become normal and the engine sounds excellent! This is reflected in the car's performance, which is simply astonishing and faster than any other e220cdi I've ever driven.

The car also failed the EGR test. Now could the faulty EGR be causing the above normal reading at idle, or does the MAF need changing anyway! Does anyone know how much a MAF sensor costs in the UK?

Cheers

Can't help with any answers I'm afraid, but with regard to the MAFs.........On my M5, BMW want about 500 quid for the pair, but I mail ordered the exact same (save for a plastic clip) sensors from the states for 120 quid. They are Bosch items which also fit the Mk4 Golf interestingly. Just a thought.

Why not change both, the EGR valve when stuck partly open will cause a rough idle, The MAF can also cause this. The problem is that you cant get a direct fault code for the MAF and codes for other things come up.

You should do the MAF first, you get one from a Bosch agent in you country, the uk price is £58 from them and you fit it into your own plastic housing.

£58, wow. Can you give me the details where you can get this from in the UK. Over here they want over £300!! I've usually got friends or family popping over from the UK on a regular basis and I'll get one of them to sneak it past the customs :) . BTW, do you know how much a EGR valve costs in the UK?

The reason I'm worried about he valve is the fuel here is really bad (very high sulphur content) and it's already blocked my Cats (which MB remove completely here). I'm just wondering if at the same time it knackered my EGR valve?
